Learning from Dagbani Songs
This lesson seeks to provide free learning resources for both teachers and learners in Primary 4. The lesson discusses songs connected to traditional Dagomba occupations and their importance.
Traditional Dagomba occupational songs are songs performed during the carrying out of tasks related to traditional occupations such as weeding, building a hut, roofing a hut, flooring the compound, weaving thatches, etc. Examples of traditional Dagomba occupational songs include;
- Baa Lana Gbaaimi a Baa, performed during weeding
- Saa bu Imoro, performed during weeding
- Zuɣa Yila, performed during flooring the compound
Some importance of traditional occupational songs include:
- It reduces fatigue
- Entertain the workers
- Allows for systematic work
- Attracts more hands to the work
- Inspires fellow workers to work harder
- Promotes our culture
